60s Proto-Punk/Psychedelia Collection

This is a collection of 60's proto-punk/garage rock songs mainly taken from the albums Nuggets and the Pebbles Series. Not all the tracks are really proto punk, things like Indian Rope Man are just classic 60s psychedelia... which is no bad thing.

The Pebbles series describes the recordings on their albums as "Original punk rock and psychedelic rock from the fabulous Sixties." These recordings were primarily made by the numerous American bands that were formed in the wake of the British Invasion. Essentially referring to the young age and lack of sophistication of the musicians, the term "punk rock" was coined (or at least popularized) by Lenny Kaye, who was involved in compiling the original Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968.

Krautrock Collection

This download is a selection of krautrock and 'trancerock'... but to be honest I'm not entirely sure what genre this should be. Basically most of these tracks are long and repetitive, hopefully causing a euphoric trance-like state rather than inducing a stroke or coma ;) It goes on for just under 80 minutes so it will fit onto a CD.

Krautrock is a generic name for the experimental music scene that appeared in Germany in the late 1960s and gained popularity throughout the 1970s, especially in Britain. BBC DJ John Peel in particular is largely credited with spreading the reputation of krautrock outside of the German-speaking world. The book Krautrocksampler by Julian Cope describes the underground music scene in Germany from 1968 through the 1970s and is well worth a read if you like this stuff.

Wonka Beats - Aquastep Remixes EP & The Traveller II EP

Here is a couple of EPs on the Wonka Beats label. Included is a copy of the Aquastep remixes 12" which was composed by Koenie van Immerseel, Sebastien Kalonji & Sven Van Hees and was released in 1993. There is also a copy of the Traveller II 12" which was originally realeased in 1992. This EP consists of Remy Unger, Lip Goodpeople & Sven Van Hees who are 3 belgian techno DJs/producers.

These two EPs are some classic belgian techno/tribal house with a nice and slightly odd 'carnival' feel to it.

Gong - You Remixed (Phase I & II)

Here is a two disc download of some remixes of the classic Gong album, You. It's got all the bands you'd expect on a Gong remix album, like System 7, The Orb & Youth. There's also some tracks from other well known artists like Graham Massey (808 State) & The Shamen. It's got some really nice remixes of the tracks & if, like me, You is one of your favourite Gong albums then this is definitely worth hearing.

In Search Of Syd

This compilation is dedicated to the late, great Syd Barrett. It was originally released in 2007 as a free CD with Mojo magazine with the sub-title of 15 psychedelic freak outs. There's a nice eclectic bunch of artists on the CD and it has some really good tracks on it so I've posted it up here for your enjoyment.
